I don’t know about you, but 2017 was amazing! And as it comes to an end I can only reflect on all the great memories that I have shared with friends and family. So many great memories and of course wonderful books. As the year comes to a close it is time to gear up for 2018 and all the great opportunities that could potentially come our way.
So I am not much of a new years resolutional gal, I do more goal setting then anything. For instance, 2016 I set a goal to only read books that were connected to movies, ideally movies that were coming out that year (that was fun). Or for 2017 my goal was to motivate someone to do something that I enjoyed and that my friend is how kimmiecupscatalog was created. For 2018 while I have a book blog, my goal is not to make reading a chore but to continue to read with purpose and for pleasure and just share my books and ideas with you guys. Therefore this year I don’t think I want to put a numerical number on the amount of books I have to read by the end of 2018, but this year I aim to read books that add value to my life. The books below are books I plan to read this year that I believe will not only add value to my life but yours as well!
SOAR- BUILD YOUR VISION FROM THE GROUND UP
AUTHOR: T.D. JAKES
PAGES: 256
PUBLISHED: 10/10/17
T.D. Jakes actually did a book tour and came to my church to discuss this book. I have always been a Jakes fan due to his ability to motivate and get you to moving and doing things you never thought were possible. Soar is dedicated to people who want to build their ideas and dreams from the ground up. This book is perfect for the person who is already or interested in being an entrepreneur. I must warn you, while T.D. Jakes has some amazing spiritual books that discuss faith and religion, this book is not that. This is practical real deal applications on ways to transform your vision into a reality.
HIS NEEDS HER NEEDS: BUILDING AN AFFAIR-PROOF MARRIAGE:
AUTHOR: WILLARD F HARLEY JR
PAGES: 240
PUBLISHED: 2/1/2011
This is a suggestion from hubby! Love that he is turning into a little bookworm. Remember when I said I was reading The Proper Care & Feeding of Marriage? Well while I was reading that, my husband was reading this book. He really seemed to enjoy it and had a lot to discuss while he read. The book discusses the most vital needs of both men and women and provides practical ways for spouses to satisfy those needs.
RESET YOUR LIFE: MAKE A NEW START
AUTHOR: JOSEPH WALKER III
PAGES: 176
PUBLISHED: 10/6/2015
Super biased because Bishop Walker is my pastor and one of my favorite humans on earth! This book came out in 2015 and I’ve heard good things about it. This book is for anyone who is interested in making a new start. So naturally this is a great book to start your 2018 year off with for my new years resolution lovers. In the book the author discusses how to “reset”, “return”, “ review”, and “recalculate”. What is cool about this book is that it is a good book club book as there is a workbook that can be purchased.
NEVER SPLIT THE DIFFERENCE: NEGOTIATING AS IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT:
AUTHOR: CHRIS VOSS
PAGES: 288
PUBLISHED: 5/17/2016
This is the book for anyone who is considering a career move or even just ways to negotiate during your every day life activities such as buying a car, getting a raise, or buying a home. This story discusses how the author mastered negotiating through life and ways to be better at it. Amazon gives this book 4.8 stars and people are definitely raving about it!
BLACK PRIVILEGE: OPPORTUNITY COMES TO THOSE WHO CREATE
AUTHOR: CHARLAMAGNE THA GOD
PAGES: 320
PUBLISHED: 4/18/2017
So many people RAVE about this book, one of my girlfriends who isn’t a huge reader literally read this book in like 3 days! I am not a huge fan of anyone who calls themselves “tha god” but I must give credit when credit is due. This book is actually considered a #1 best seller on Amazon and a “must read”. The author encourages the reader in a comical way that living an authentic life is the only way to go and it ultimately leads to success. The reader voyages through his life learning from his mistakes as he shares how he turns his life around by refusing to give up.
THINK AND GROW RICH- NAPOLEON HILL
AUTHOR: Napoleon Hill
PAGES: 400
PUBLISHED: original first edition 1937
This book is an OLDIE, but goodie. Who doesn’t enjoy growing rich? I started this book via audiobook but never finished it. My goal is definitely to finish it in 2018. This book is actually blue printed around Andrew Carnegie’s formula of 13 proven steps to riches and money making. There is a workbook that was created in 2009, so if you are serious about this venture I would encourage you to consider that as well. The goal of the book is to teach you techniques that bring you fortune and once applied will ultimately bring you lasting success!
I can’t wait to share 2018 with you! Happy New Years and HAAPPPPYYYY READING!
Reading is one of my all time favorite things to do, but lately I’ve probably done every BUT read. For 2018, I’ve decided to get back into the reading game and expand my mind. My goal for the year is to read 30 books. 🙂

I love reading but never really set a goal or book challenge, furthermore, I start reading a book with the last 2 pages, because I am a spoiler in general! But your idea is great, good luck!

I’m a very lazy reader, in fact, I should say I’m not a reader at all but, after this post, I think I should try reading something that will add value to my life. Thanks for this.
