BOOK REVIEW: FIRST QUARTER BOOK ROUND UP

Can you believe first quarter of 2018 is over? I know we are in the mist of second quarter but I do want to share with you some of my favorite books for January- March.   Don’t forget, 2018 is my year of reading books for personal value and so far 2018 has been rock solid. I am super excited at the reading progress I am making thus far.

Okay so here are a few of my favorite books that I have read from the last few months:

SEIZE THE DAY: LIVING ON PURPOSE AND MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT

Author: JOYCE MEYER

Pages: 256

To be honest with you guys, I was down for a spell due to medical reasons.  My family and friends were amazing and between all the calls, care packages, and help, your girl felt so blessed.  Because I was taken such good care of, during this time I was able to really recharge. This is the first time I was able to mentally and physically relax.  I am a person who is always on the move, always going somewhere; and during this period I HAD. TO. SIT.  Do you know how hard that was? But trust me, before this time, I was stressed.  Like ALL THE TIME, and SOO EASILY. But yay for good books!  This book helped me both spiritually and mentally.  Seize the Day changed my life on how I felt about each day and what I needed to do to fix my stressful mindset. It digs into topics such as how to be organized, what God says about being passive and active, and how to seize each day with purpose and on purpose.  If you don’t read anything else, this book is worth at least checking out.

BLACK PRIVILEGE: OPPORTUNITY COMES TO THOSE WHO CREATE IT

Author: CHARLAMAGNE THA GOD

Pages: 320

Okay so if you remember, this was on my goal-lusion must read list that I created at the end of last year.  I was insanely skeptical of the book but because my friends insisted I would like it, I went ahead and gave it a try.  I borrowed it from the library bc I was so convinced I would hate it and didn’t want to spend money on something I didn’t plan on finishing. Yea so Charlamagne tricked the heck out of me because I’ve been quoting this book since the first day I picked it up in January! YALL THIS BOOK IS FULL OF GEMS.  I was told that I would appreciate it more because I don’t listen to his podcast and I don’t know if that is true or not, but to be on the safe side I am avoiding his podcast because I really don’t want to change my opinion about his character hahaha.  (Yes I am that obsessed with this book). He discusses his life and all the great things he’s learned in the radio industry.  He touched my little heart!  Here is one of my favorite quotes from the book:

“Your passion is that one thing you can’t stop thinking about, that thing you wake up thinking about this morning, go to sleep thinking about at night, that thing that you would do for free-” Black Privilege

THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE

Author: STEVEN COVEY

Pages: 432

This book was sooo thought provoking.  Super simple concepts that may be simple to do for some and difficult to do for others!  I listened to this book every morning and it really geared me up for the day and helped me interact with people better.  Out of the 7 habits the one that suck with me the most is “be proactive in making good things happen in your life”.  While life circumstances do happen, set your attitude towards success and put yourself in a position where good things are destined to follow.   Positivity goes a long way and is a must in order to truly enjoy life!  What I enjoyed most about the book is that all the information provided can be used in both your professional and personal life. The audiobook provided  life examples on how the book was implemented by other readers, which was also really neat.  If you choose to read this book, keep a notebook near by!  You will definitely want to write down the gems the author discusses.

I hope your year is starting off productive!  Until next time! Happy reading!
