It is that time once again to round up my favorite books for second quarter! I have really dedicated a lot of my time to reading this year so I have a lot of options for you guys. To keep it light, here are my Top 5 favorite books for April- June:
THE HATE YOU GIVE
AUTHOR: ANGIE THOMAS
This book became insanely dear to my heart because there was a shooting in which 4 African Americans were killed at a local Waffle House that was about 20 minutes from my house. The act of senseless killing is unfortunately becoming normal and in this book you see how a strong 16-year-old girl battles fear when she has to speak up when a police officer kills her childhood best friend for no reason. Readers get the opportunity to see how a teen lives her reality in a poor neighborhood while attending prep school in a suburban neighborhood and how it effects her as she deals with the uncalled for killing.
WHAT ALICE FORGOT
AUTHOR: LIANE MORIARTY
I am totally obsessed with the author Liane Moriarty. She is a great writer and I get so invested in all her books! This quarter I read three of her books, but my favorite was What Alice Forgot. What Alice Forgot deals with the main character hitting her head and completely forgetting 10 years of her life. A lot of things can happen in 10 years and Alice soon realizes that some of these changes may or may not be for the good.
AUTHOR: JOJO MOYES
This book was everything! I have read the first two books of this series, Me Before You, and After You already and I was eager to read this one. The first two novels were read about 2-3 years ago so part of me was worried that I was going to be confused at the story line. However I am happy to report that the book flowed and things from the other books came back to my memory easily. Still Me is about main character Louise Clark and her experience working in New York. Her life while there is so different from London and we watch how she learns about herself, how she handles conflict, and how she learns about true love.
THE WIFE BETWEEN US
AUTHOR: GREER HENDRICKS & SARAH PEKKANEN
This book was the definition of a PAGE TURNER! Have you ever read a book so good that you are honestly upset when it is over? This was that book for me. After reading this I couldn’t wait to talk to my friends about it and see what their perspective was. Things were pointed out to me that didn’t even catch my attention while reading the book. It is full of plot twist and may require you to reread the chapter because you will undoubtedly say things like “say whaaaaa”, or “OMG no way” due to all the false assumptions you made the first time you read it! The book is about marriage and betrayal. In the book we meet an ex-wife who is stalking her ex husband’s new wife who seems to be a duplicate of her younger self… at least that’s what she thought.
YOU ARE A BAD A**, HOW TO STOP DOUBTING YOUR GREATNESS & START LIVING AN AWESOME LIFE
AUTHOR: JEN SINCERO
This book made me smile from beginning to end. I read this during a time when I was doing some soul searching. This book not only helped ease my mind, but it gave me a new appreciation for “me time” and positive energy. The book helps you identify potential ways you are sabotaging your happiness, ways to create personal happiness, and helps create a life you love. After reading this book I have a better understanding of myself and honestly the people I hang around.
What are your favorite books so far this year? I would love to hear about them!
